Hi everyone

Welcome to Empower Within Coaching’s March Blog!  It is nearly end of March… the weeks are flying by..

Has anyone been in an Overwhelm state?  This is becoming more and more evident as many people are dealing with intense demands simultaneously including work, family life, children and children’s activities, domestic duties and social outings.

With so much going on in our lives; we are struggling to keep going at this intensity and extremely fast pace.  We may perceive our world that there is just so much going on that we cannot cope. Health issues are on the increase including adrenal glands dysfunction; auto immune diseases; headaches; migraines; lethargy; chronic fatigue; digestive system issues, depression and anxiety and I believe that our bodies; emotions, minds and spirit/souls are struggling with too much pressure that we place on ourselves at the one time.

Overwhelm or Overloaded states occur when you may feel that nothing can change the situation, that the problem is TOO big and it’s permanent, all encompassing and personal. It is realising that if we are trying to deal with so many things at once and want to complete them ‘overnight’ then of course we are going to feel overloaded!

We all need ‘stress’ in our lives for us to be in action phase;  however there needs to be a BALANCE with inactivity and too much on at the one time!

For me, I grew up in a house full of ‘hoarders’!  Both my parents are hoarders; although my mother will blankly deny this… (That’s another story…)

With an open plan home, husband and 3 gorgeous boys; I have realised that I need to really let go of the need for my limiting belief of hoarding.  This belief does not serve me anymore and it’s time to let go…  From time to time; I do go into Overloaded/Overwhelm states especially when I acknowledge that our home requires cleansing and clearing.  For me, this problem of clearing out things, freaks me out!!!  At the core of it… keeping things/hoarding is a security issue…  the feeling of being safe/secure if I do not throw anything out!  I acknowledge that as long as I am SECURE in myself that I do not need the material possessions that I do not use!

Now, I follow the below steps to overcome this sense of Overwhelm.  It has been incredibly enlightening and empowering.

I have also learned to SAY NO! Being a ‘helper’ and healer and yes my shadow self – a wounded healer… I have finally learned to say NO to tasks and even social outings (my love of socialising).

I’m tuning into my body… tuning into my heart space and ensuring I live a life in BALANCE.

Teaching my 3 boys also to live in Balance is pivotal in my parenting…  If your child is doing too much; tune into their body ailments and their negative emotional states… This is a good time for us all to teach our children to fine tune BALANCE in our lives..

Being able to challenge ourselves without going into overwhelm/overload states!!

TIPS TO OVERCOME OVERWHELM!

Our self esteem is often tied to our ability to control our environments.  Focussing on what we can control and dealing with it one step at a time.

1. Write down ALL the things that you believe need completing.  By writing down demands; you get a sense of your busy environment and that you are aware of what needs to be done.

2. Now prioritise what is the most important task to complete to the least important task.

3. Use a system to assist you to ACTION the tasks. For example Empower Within Coaching’s 90 Day Goal Template.

4. Complete the FIRST TASK on your list.  This TASK maybe extremely time consuming and BIG.  BREAK DOWN the Task to smaller steps.  AS  you complete each small step; cross it out off your list.  Soon, you’ll complete the TASK FULLY.  CROSS it out off your prioritised list.

5.  Keep actioning each TASK and if needed break each task into smaller steps.

6. BE REALISTIC. Create the time in your busy day/week to complete each little step – PLAN your TIME.

7. Learn to SAY NO!  If you are someone that constantly takes on too much and says YES to everyone… Learn to say NO.  A NO is just a NO! and it’s very OK to say NO.  Let go of the Martyr archetype…

8. Delegate any tasks if appropriate with finances.  There are many domestic chores that maybe delegated to make your life easier – house cleaner; online shopping; healthy food home delivery; gardener; lawn mowing person; babysitters; nanny/au pairs.

9.  Create time for meditation and/or nurturing activities for you to indulge and help ground yourself.  For example; walks though nature; sitting on the beach; Yoga; Deep Breathing Exercise; Living in your heart space.

10. Enjoy the process… As soon as you know you are ACTIONING your demands and crossing them off your list; you’ll find that you are CO-CREATING YOUR OWN LIFE.  You are productive; calm; focussed with clarity; joyful; passionate and living a life FULL OF PURPOSE AND MEANING!
